History

This page is the cover page to sites created for the National History Day competition.  In 2009, we produced two sites;
1.     by my grandson, Justin Newton and his friends, on Commander Benjamin Franklin Tilley, the first Naval Governor. This site won first place island-wide.
2.     by my daughter, Noeleen Newton and her friend, on Peter Tali Coleman, the first elected governor.  This site won third place island-wide.

You will see the students on their sites.  They were both juniors in high school when these sites were created.  I must admit to giving them a lot of help but, in the end, they all learned a great deal about website design.  And the history shown on the sites is better than most other sources of information on these subjects.

For 2010, Noeleen will prepare a site chronicling the Educational Television experiment during the 1960s and '70s.  We are hoping the ETV site will give a complete account of the efforts, trials and tribulations faced by the many people who tried so hard to make ETV work here.  Then, after the National History Day competition, we will launch the site under an independent domain with the hope that some of the people who were actually here during the ETV era will contribute pictures and stories.

My grandson, Justin, is now in Hawaii playing football for McKinley High School. He hopes to continue with a football career.
